Have A Word
Founder 2018: Lucy Hine
Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you find the site easy to navigate and understand the services provided within it. If in doubt - please contact me and ask any questions you may have. I would really love to hear from you.
Around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem yet the shame and silence can be as bad for a person as the mental health problem itself. Your attitude towards mental health could change someone's life. Sometimes the fear of saying the wrong thing or not knowing what to say to someone can cause you to hold back - even though you desperately want to help.
The main objective of HAVE A WORD is to educate and support people in understanding the importance of our mental health by providing training courses, private mental health therapy and coaching sessions for those aged 15 and above.
I am a proud ADHD entrepreneur based in St Albans, Hertfordshire and created HAVE A WORD in 2018 whilst I was working for a large airline, part-time. My side hustle quickly became my main focus and at the beginning of 2020 I was in a position to proudly offer HAVE A WORD services full time to all.
I have had a passion for people and psychology for as long as I can remember - I find us all fascinating! Working within the aviation and travel industry for sixteen years gave me a lot of opportunities to work with difference and diversity. I recognise and appreciate the uniqueness of us all and promote social inclusion whilst embracing individuality. It is with pride that I sit alongside the LGBTQ+ community and vulnerable individuals to promote self-empowerment, happiness and confidence.
You have the power to change your life for the better - embrace your difference.
Mental Health Therapy and Coaching are in-demand private services, where I actively work as the main Therapist and Mental Health Coach for both adults and young people (15+). It is with passion and enthusiasm that I have created affordable, flexible sessions to help normalise mental health support within society and address the stigma associated with mental illness. I believe that you should not have to wait to speak to a trained professional and that psychological therapies should be readily available, alongside the NHS as much as possible.
I offer regulated and accredited RQF | OFQUAL Level 1, 2 and 3 First Aid for Mental Health (Adult | Youth) training courses which help support workplace training options and create consistency, structure and community. For those of you wanting to support a team of mental health first aiders in a supervising role, as well as individuals wanting to learn more towards personal development and enhancing an even better understanding of their own health and wellbeing.
HAVE A WORD services are continuously expanding and incorporate online and in-person services. My professional approach brings both clinical and holistic theories and modalities to help educate and create new perspective surrounding mental health.
I am delighted to have been offering all services from my private practice in St Albans, Hertfordshire from January 2022.
To all clients past, present and future, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. Thank you for being part of my life story so far.

Born to be Different: Lucy Hine
Book | Paperback and eBook on Amazon Kindle

“Life itself is a journey. Whether we engage with the process and grow with self-awareness and optimism, the end goal is up to each one of us.”
Lucy Hine’s entrance into the world was a difficult one but, despite the challenges along the way, she’s never let that stop her. She was born with a rare condition. Hirschsprung Disease and survived against the odds. This book showcases her highs and lows, detailing the career and family she’s built. Anyone reading will come away understanding the importance of talking about health in a positive way, and never underestimating what you’re capable of."

Lucy | Learning Experience
I have found that today’s learners seek a learning environment that is not as obsolete as traditional classrooms but that is specifically enhanced to support thinking and engagement. I believe that a learning environment should push learning capacity with altering facilitation styles and teaching practices. I always put myself in the learners position and think what I would want if I was attending a Mental Health course - and reflect on how I felt when I was first introduced to MHFA Training.
I want to be part of an impactful learning setting that provides a sense of achievement and feels interactive with fellow learners.
It is the HAVE A WORD promise to create an active and engaged environment throughout the learning whilst allowing people to feel safe and comfortable - embracing individual perspectives and celebrating equality, with inclusion for all.

Mental Health First Aid Training
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and potentially stop a crisis from happening.
You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of poor mental health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe. You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. You will gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

The Training Environment
Face to Face | Online
Learning takes place across manageable sessions. Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan. Research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA course will raise awareness in mental health literacy, reduce stigma around mental ill health, boost knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues and promote early intervention which enables recovery.
